  3. of a ship. It contains large wisps of gas
  4. (called the Gum nebula after its discoverer),
  5. believed to be the remains of one or more
  6. supernovae. Vela also contains the second
  7. optical pulsar (a pulsar that flashes at a
  8. visible wavelength) to be discovered. Its
  9. four brightest stars are second-magnitude,
  10. one of them being Suhail, about 490 light
  11. years from Earth.
